What is urethral sounding?

Let's begin with a simple definition: urethral sounding is the practice of inserting specialized tools (like sex toys or medical-grade dilators) into the urethra. Why the word “sounding”?

While there are medical tools called "sounds" used for probing bodily cavities, many of them are also referred to as dilators. As a result, you will encounter both terms: urethral sounds and urethral dilators.

Looking back at the medical origins, dilators are used to treat narrowed sections of the urethra, so the term urethral dilation is often more accurate.

However, you might also encounter the term urethral insertion. In our opinion, this is the most accurate description of the practice. Not everybody engages in this to stretch (dilate) the urethra; many simply insert objects into the urethra for various other purposes.

The motivation for urethral insertion

From a physical perspective, the stimulation can be quite intense. You might enjoy the feeling of a dilator fitting snugly inside your urethra, as well as the way it alters your perception of external (e.g. manual) stimulation. Some people have urethras that are sensitive enough to reach climax through urethral stimulation alone.
